Basic Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem, experiencing the worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
Just like physical first aid is provided until medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate support is found or until the crisis is resolved. Please note: MHFA does not teach participants to become therapists or counsellors. Rather, it provides the skills, knowledge and attitudes that allow someone to offer effective first aid intervention.

Participants are taught how to provide effective crisis intervention in a variety of situations:
An important component of Mental Health First Aid training is the opportunity to practice the intervention strategy rather than to just learn about it. This simple experience can make it easier to apply the knowledge in a real-life situation. In addition to crisis interventions, participants learn how to have confident and effective conversations about mental health, regardless of whether someone is in crisis or not. This includes recognizing the signs and symptoms of an emerging mental health problem or noticing a change in someone’s behaviour and starting a conversation with that person. |
12-hours | 2 Days |
Regular Price: $250 |
MHFA is an interactive workshop that teaches participants to recognize the signs that a person may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis and how to provide initial help and guide the person to appropriate professional resources.

See what other’s had to say about the class:
– Tiawna was an amazing instructor and made the experience very enjoyable and comfortable, even though the subject matter could be sensitive. She was very encouraging, knowledgeable and relatable. We had engaging conversations throughout the group. Tiawna used a lot of personal experiences to help us relate to the subjects, and also encouraged us to participate in activities if we were comfortable doing so.
– Great Course! Great Instructor! Enjoyed the open discussion. It helped me realize some past trauma and begin to face it. Thank you!
– Tiawna was an absolutely amazing instructor. I love how she used her own personal experiences to relate the information. She made the course feel very comfortable even though it involved sensitive subject matters.

– Very comfortable environment. Very easy to digest information.
– The course was fun, easy and educational. I felt safe opening up in the group and Tiawna offered a very safe space o do so. Tiawna is very kind, bright and well spoken. She was very easy to listen to and learn from 🙂
– Tiawna allowed everyone to share and include their tangents. The stories shared were vulnerable topics, but she allowed lots of OK space to share.
She also didn’t push others to share when they were quiet, and encouraged conversation when the table was quiet.
– There was a very good amount of group work and the instructor was confident in what she was teaching. This information will help a lot as I move forward in my profession.
– This was great! This course was non-threatening and very applicable to real-life scenarios.
– I had an amazing experience and am so lucky to have gotten this opportunity. The instructor was kind, patient, funny and caring. I felt extremely comfortable talking about hard topics. I felt safe and understood throughout the class. Tiawna taught me things that I will take away for the rest of my life. I can’t wait to put this to good use.
